Inspiration & Colours

The full spectrum
Trends and colours are an undeniable influence in textiles, fashion and retail. Getting it right for the season makes a huge difference to the bottom line. Colour gives energy and eloquence, a powerful catalyst for stimulating the market, creating desirability and pushing sales. Trends offer an imaginary visual experience to explore each season, whether they are connected to art, craft, architecture, science, history, music, nature etc. – translating trends into textile or fashion detail makes the irresistible ‘musthaves’ each season.

My in-depth experience combined with the extensive research I continue to undertake, has placed me at the heart of key colour boards and trend committees, and with this comes a clear perception of what’s ‘in or out’ / ‘chic or cool’ in that critical period two years ahead of the season.

Boards and committees:

  • UK Member of Première Vision Committee

  • Chair of U.K.F.T. British Colours & Textiles twice-yearly seasonal meetings with designers working full-time in industry for autumn/winter and spring/summer to formulate colour cards to identify and communicate colour, trend and textile stories

Full impact
Identifying colours and trends two years ahead of the season is just one part of my skill set. The other part, is to transform knowledge into recommendations and actions for my clients across all sectors: manufacturers; retailers and fashion designers by:

  • translating trends to create newness is also about understanding market levels and pertinent interpretation

  • creating personalised seasonal colour palettes, advising clients on colour combinations, proportions and relevant key colours. Getting all this right is critical to commercial success

  • seasonal colour merchandising for retail

  • revisiting client’s existing colour palette and advising what to add or drop

  • creating trend mood-boards

  • writing targeted retail reports with photos

My in-depth experience combined with the extensive research I continue to undertake has placed me at the heart of key colour boards and trend committees, and with this comes a clear perception of what’s ‘in or out’ / ‘chic or cool’ in that critical period two years ahead of the season.
